Women in the Cocoa Business
Women play a central role in providing for their families, as they invest the majority of their income in keeping and educating their children. Although they make a significant contribution in cocoa production, their income is often very small. Chocolats Halba supports a programme run by Ghana cooperative Kuapa Kokoo to promote women. The programme aims to strengthen women and thus stabilize family incomes. It helps the women to organize and educate themselves, put small business ideas into practice and access loans more easily. Recently, Chocolats Halba has launched a project in Ecuador which aims at strengthen women and to train them to become cocoa-agroforestry-specialists.
