In 2011, Chocolats Halba commissioned an environmental impact study of its packaging materials. Of all the packaging materials used by Chocolats Halba, aluminium foil, polypropylene, paper and corrugated cardboard cause the most ecological damage. Aluminium foil is used underneath the paper wrapper as the chocolate's primary packaging layer. To ensure they arrive undamaged in the shops, chocolate Easter bunnies are wrapped in polypropylene bags and transported to the supermarket in boxes made of corrugated cardboard.

Cardboard boxes and paper are made from wood. Since 2012 we have switched 100% of our paper-based packaging to FSC or recycling material. The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is an international, non-profit organization established to promote environmentally compatible, socially accountable and economically viable management of the world's forests.
More ecological alternatives to aluminium foil, polypropylene, paper and corrugated cardboard offer further potential for reducing environmental pollution. Unfortunately, however, there are currently no food-safe packaging alternatives on the market we could use to substantially reduce our environmental impact.
